Antonio Felix da CostaAntónio Félix da Costa was in action this weekend at the Croft circuit in northern England, participating in the first of two rounds of the Formula Renault 2.0 UK Winter Series with the CR Scuderia team, in what was another step in his preparation for the 2009 season.

In a track that was new to him, and under intense cold and rain, António was unable to do a clear lap and had to settle for 7th and 9th places on the grid among the 26 participating drivers.

In the first race, using rain tires, the young driver from Estoril showed all his class and determination in the initial laps and moved up into 2nd place. However, a contact with the 3rd placed driver on lap 4 forced him into a spin and down to 6th place. Never conceding defeat, he then started to make his way up the field again and got up to 4th. In the last lap, and under attack by the driver in 5th position, he went off and damaged the suspension, being forced to retire from the race.

In the second race, once again on rain tires, António Félix da Costa was on the attack from early on which resulted in many overtaking moments and a 4th place at the end.

“In these two first races of the Winter Series I faced a group of very quick and experienced drivers, who knew the Croft track and are used to the English climate. Everything became complicated in the qualifying session. The constant red flags didn’t allow me to get a clear lap. I did my best as always, passed a lot of cars and got to know a new team to which I adapted very well. I think that now I am better prepared to fight for a podium place in the second round which will take place in Rockingham next weekend. It was a very hectic weekend. I would like to congratulate the winners, Henry Surtees and James Calado, who won a race each. They can expect a tougher fight from me in the next races”, António told his website

António Félix da Costa will participate in the second and final round of the British Winter Series on November 8, and will then proceed with his intense winter program in order to prepare for the 2009 season.

Before that he will test with 2008 World Series by Renault champions P1 Motorsport on November 5 in Paul Ricard, his prize for conquering the vice-championship in the Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup.
