Rodolfo AvilaMacau motor racing ace Rodolfo Avila is gearing up for the 2009 Porsche Carrera Cup Asia season “home race” at the Zhuhai International Circuit with high hopes.

Avila made his first steps in car racing at Zhuhai track but he never drove a Porsche 997 GT3 Cup there. Last year the Macanese driver came 2nd in Asian GT Series’ March Race.

Speaking about his “home” event, Avila said, “I’m looking forward to this weekend. I can say Zhuhai is my second-home. The circuit is right on the other side of Macau’s border and my team’s workshop is there. It’s always special to get the chance to race in front of my family, friends and sponsors when there is a big event like this. ”

Series newcomer from Macau, at just 22 years-of-age the youngest driver in the field, lies 3rd in the championship standings. Having taken pole position on his debut and following it up with two podium finishes at Shanghai, the Asia Racing Team driver suffered a setback in the last round at Beijing, denting his points tally but keeping his position.

“I think we are definitely prepared for the Zhuhai race. We will just go into this race like we have the others, and take it one session at a time. Hopefully, we can bring home the best overall result so far. I know the track very well but all my opponents raced here before in Porsche Carrera Cup. As its very important to finish every race due to the current points system, I won’t take unnecessary risks but I’ll do my best”, said Avila.

Apart from the sensational start of the season, Avila is still short on budget for the rest of the 2009 Porsche Carrera Cup Asia season.

“The situation hasn’t changed from the previous races and my budget is not complete yet. I don’t know what is going to happen after this race. We have been doing a massive effort to honour our sponsorship agreements. BNU, RPmacau, Fat Siu Lau, Sujika Crafts and PAL Asiaconsult believed in this project from the beginning and I want to payback. We definitely did the right choice to move to these series as the exposure has been above our expectations”, concluded the Asia SuperCar Challenge 2008 champion.

The Pan Delta Super Racing Festival weekend starts on Friday with two Free Practice sessions. Qualifying for Round 5 of the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia will be held on Saturday, June 20, with two, 12-lap races on Sunday, June 21.
