Felix Rosenqvist

Felix Rosenqvist is the new leader of both the Swedish and North European Zone (NEZ) Formula Renault championships after this weekend’s races in Falkenberg. The two series visited the Swedish west coast for rounds 3-4 and 5-6 respectively, with Rosenqvist continuing his podium-winning form by mounting a sole challenge to the Finnish Koiranen Bros team’s both cars in Race 1. In the second heat, the 17-year-old finished fourth (third in the Swedish series) after struggling with tyre difficulties.

“A hectic weekend here in Falkenberg with a lot on stake due to both championships running simultaneously,” Rosenqvist says. “I had never driven on this circuit before, so I really wanted to make the most out of practice. The Koiranen Bros cars were quick and I did what I could to put pressure on them, but decided to back off and enjoy some good points. To leave Falkenberg with the lead in both championships is great ahead of the rest of the season!”

In early practice, it soon became clear that Felix’s team – up until now all-conquering Team BS Motorsport – didn’t have their usual pace. Rosenqvist still managed to keep himself inside the top battle, while team-mate Daniel Roos finished in seventh and eight in the two races and lost the lead in both championships. Felix Rosenqvist now heads the Swedish campaign with 27 points, two ahead of Philip Forsman and a further two ahead of Roos, and the overall NEZ classification 13 points clear of his nearest rival.

“We’re aware that, this time, we probably went down the wrong road as far as set-up is concerned,” Rosenqvist concludes. “I’m convinced that Team BS Motorsport have got what it takes to come back stronger than ever, and this definitely wasn’t a disaster. Racing is tight and the small details are vital, but we all want to win – not least myself! We will now dedicate our focus towards the Swedish championship for a while and I’m comfortably looking ahead to the up-coming races”.

The Swedish Formula Renault championship now takes a one-month break before racing resumes in Karlskoga on the weekend of August 14-15. As for NEZ, the only remaining event is the September finale at Ring Knutstorp.
