Sarah Moore’s advantage has increased – slightly – at the head of the Ginetta Junior Championship with Henderson Insurance as the series heads to Knockhill this weekend.

Sarah headed to Snetterton just one point ahead in the Ginetta Junior Championship with Henderson Insurance but another good weekend of points-scoring, plus disappointment for championship rival Alex Austin, means that she arrives north of the Border 12 points clear of her nearest challenger. It isn’t a huge lead, but in Ginetta Junior terms, it is massive!

The teenagers have provided some of the fiercest racing on the BTCC bill this season with a host of drivers bagging wins: Jake Cook won both Brands Hatch battles early-season before Sarah Moore won three on the bounce to set up her championship challenge. Those wins came at Thruxton (two) and Donington, but significantly she hasn’t won since May. It is her points-scoring ability keeping her ahead now. Alex Austin won at Oulton Park, while Aaron Williamson took a win at Donington, Oulton Park and Croft, before Jake Hill finally delivered on his potential and won at Croft in race two. Ironically, broadcaster father Simon was out of the country, working at Le Mans… Cook was back in form at Snetterton with two more wins and is creeping back into contention in the title race: Moore has 273, Williamson 261 and Cook 249. Oh, and Austin, who went to Snetterton second in the standings but retired from race two meaning  a zero score, is fourth on 240. It is a wide-open championship.

This weekend’s Knockhill action is likely to be as fierce as any we have seen all year and there is a host of other drivers queuing up to score well: David Moore, for example, Sarah’s brother, has shown flashes of promise but not yet done better than second (at Oulton Park), Chris Swanwick has shown pace as well and took second at Donington, while Tom Howard and Mitchell Hale should be in the leading pack.

But can Sarah cling on to her championship lead? If she can, she’ll have worked hard this weekend…

Qualifying for the Ginetta Junior Championship takes place on Saturday August 15 at 14:25 after free practice at 09:25. Both races take place on Sunday August 16 at 11:15 and 16:15.
