Harry TincknellTwo solid performances at rounds 15 and 16 of the Formula Renault UK Championship at Silverstone, Northamptonshire, have allowed CRS Racing’s Harry Tincknell to extend his lead in the Graduate Cup. The 17-year-old now looks in great shape for the title as he leads the class standings by 28 points with just four rounds remaining of the 2009 season.

Tincknell topped the timing charts throughout the two 20-minute qualifying sessions on Saturday 29 August. The Exeter-based driver secured pole position in the Graduate Cup for both races, starting in fifth and third-place overall for rounds 15 and 16 respectively, out performing his fellow CRS Racing team-mates.

A strong start in round 15 put Harry fourth by the end of the first lap. Formula Renault veteran Dean Smith pursued Harry, but he defended well. Tincknell’s mature driving style allowed him to maintain his position despite sustained pressure from Smith, claiming the Graduate Cup win and a fourth-place finish overall.

Harry once again secured the graduate win in round 16 from his second row start. Having run as high as second overall, Tincknell secured a sixth-place finish. With two strong results, Harry collected 40 points, widening his lead in the Graduate Cup to 28 points and moving him up to sixth overall in the drivers’ standings, three points ahead of team-mate Josh Scott.

“In the last few events we have struggled with qualifying which has made things difficult. This weekend we really got on-top of the problem and very nearly ended up with two overall pole-positions,” said Tincknell. “Having to defend throughout race one was tough, but we were able to get two graduate wins which was our primary objective.

“I’m looking forward to Rockingham; we went well there in last years winter series and it’s a circuit I really enjoy driving,” added the Exter driver.

The Rockingham rounds of the Formula Renault UK Championship take place on 19-20 September 2009.
