Harry TincknellTwo strong performances from Harry Tincknell at rounds 17 and 18 of the Formula Renault UK Championship at Rockingham, Northamptonshire, have allowed the 17-year-old to increase his Graduate Cup lead to 62 points, with just two rounds remaining.

The Exeter-based driver qualified third and second for rounds 17 and 18 respectively after battling with Formula Renault UK veterans. He translated these into two Graduate Cup victories via fourth and third-place finishes overall.

Tincknell was passed by Dean Stoneman at the start of round 17, and continued to pursue him to reclaim third, but was unable to catch the more experienced driver before the chequered flag. Harry crossed the line fourth, adding another 22 points to his tally.

Round 18 saw the CRS Racing driver deliver another strong performance, securing his second Graduate Cup win of the weekend as well as the class fastest lap and his fourth overall podium of the season.

“It has been a really good weekend,” said Tincknell. “We banked some valuable points this weekend with some very strong performances. The team did well at Rockingham last year, so we had a good baseline to work from in terms of set-up. The car drove really well which made things easier.

“I have been working hard behind-the-scenes and it is starting to pay off. Obviously the main aim for Brands Hatch is to sew-up the Graduate Cup in race one so we can go all-out for a win in the second race. We did very well at Brands earlier this year: I took pole for my first ever race and converted it into a great podium finish, so now it is all about getting a victory under my belt.”

The Brands Hatch rounds of the Formula Renault UK Championship take place on 3-4 October 2009.
