Isaac TutumluTutumlu, Spanish of Kurdish origin, improved his times over the course of the day and closed the gap with his teammate, an experienced Mehdi Bennani. His lack of top speed was, once again, his main issue.

Isaac Tutumlu completed today his first qualifying session ever in the World Touring Car Championship, the most closely-fought championship organized by FIA. Tutumlu, who made his debut with Proteam Racing´s BMW 320 TC a couple of days ago, has had an important improvement during today´s sessions: two free practice sessions and later the qualifying session.

In the morning Tutumlu set his best laps of 2:02.358 and 2.01.654 in FP1 and FP2 respectively. However, “in spite of I have been used today a new engine, my car has a lack of top-speed. And it is a problem not just for me, but for my teammate Mehdi Bennani too. He was 6 in qualifying last year at Monza, and today he finished in 20 ”, Tutumlu explained. Nevertheless Proteam Racing´s driver gave his best to set a lap of 2:01.333, his best time this week. “I am not happy because I was improving my lap at the end but then Alberto Cerqui went off track. Yellow flags were waved and I had to abort my attempt. I think today was possible to gain some more places and finish close to Ford drivers and former F1 driver Tiago Monteiro”, Tutumlu added.

Both races are scheduled tomorrow, race 1 at 13.20 and race 2 at 17.05 and they are ten laps long. Tutumlu ended saying that “my aim is to continue learning with my new car, the BMW 320 TC. We will talk to BMW engineers to solve our current speed problems but, meanwhile, I am going to take it easy, trying to finish both races and scoring as much points as possible for Independents´ Trophy”.
