British GTScuderia Vittoria’s Aaron Scott and John Dhillon produced a fine display by producing two top ten finishes at Snetterton 300 circuit this weekend (4/5 August), as the Avon Tyre’s British GT Championship rolled into Norfolk for 2 x 60 minute sprint races.

With Saturday’s qualifying session cancelled due to monsoon-like conditions at the circuit, grid allocations for both races would be decided by the times set in Free Practice, leaving John Dhillon to qualify Scuderia Vittoria’s Ferrari 458 challenger in fifth position for the first race, followed by the team being placed on the fourth row of the grid in eighth position for race two.

Starting from fifth position in race one, a relatively inexperienced Dhillon got off the line well to defend fifth position throughout the opening stages of the race, before an error at Oggies on lap four, dropped Dhillon back to tenth position. Recovering well, the 2011 GT3B Champion would pit with 28 minutes of the race completed in 12th position.

With 32 minutes to go a determined Scott took to the track and soon set about his mission of trying to propel Scuderia Vittoria back into the top ten on a circuit renowned for predominantly suiting his championship counterparts in Porsches.

After gaining 11th position, Scott soon began to hunt down the Ferrari 430 of Adam Wilcox, this saw the pairing tussle for a number of laps before a move at Agostini with five laps to go, sealed a fine top ten finish for Scuderia Vittoria’s Ferrari 458 machinery. Scott also completed the race with the feat of being the fastest Ferrari on the circuit, whilst also completing the third fastest lap time of the race with a lap time of 1 minute 52.969.

The second one hour sprint race of the weekend saw Scott initially take to the wheel, getting off the line well to jump the Scuderia Vittoria Ferrari 458 up to sixth position in the early stages of the race. A determined effort from the renowned racer would see him possess some thrilling pace before pitting in third position.

Re-joining in the heat of the on track action at the front, Dhillon dealt with the fierce competition upfront tremendously well, and despite losing out to RJN Motorsport, Ecurie Ecosse and Motorbase Performance, he would cross the line to seal Scuderia Vittoria’s second top six finish in as many meetings.

“I’m very happy with the race pace that we had at Snetterton this weekend,” said Scott. “Scuderia Vittoria have done a mega job and I’m looking forward to taking another step forward at Silverstone with John, I think that a podium finish is a very realistic possibility.”

Delighted to seal his second top six finish of the year, 2011 GT3B Champion Dhillon remains confident of completing the 2012 season on a strong note.

“I really enjoyed myself out there this weekend,” explained Dhillon. “To achieve another top six finish is such a huge confidence booster, I’m very much looking forward to the remainder of the season and I feel very optimistic about our chances.”

The Avon Tyres British GT Championship will now take a five week break before Aaron Scott and John Dhillon resume their campaign at Silverstone on 8/9 September.
