Ahmad Al HarthyPorsche Carrera Cup GB Championship racer Ahmad Al Harthy returns to the UK this weekend, 22nd/23rd September, for the resumption of the 2012 season at Rockingham where the Omani hopes to move a step closer to achieving his goal of becoming Pro-Am 1 Champion.

Off the back of two excellent race wins at Knockhill in Scotland last month, the 31-year-old Oman Air Racing Team driver holds a 48 point lead in Pro-Am 1 heading into rounds 15 and 16 of the campaign at the Northamptonshire venue’s 1.94-mile International Sportscar Circuit.

So far, Ahmad’s third season of Porsche racing has been nothing short of sensational with a total of 13 podiums from the first 14 races. For the annual visit to Rockingham, the Muscat driver will also be aiming to take his tally of wins for the year into double figures having secured his eighth and ninth victories of the season last time out.

“It really has been a wonderful season for the Oman Air Racing Team so far”, said Ahmad, “Knockhill was a fantastic weekend, the two wins there were very important for our championship and to go into the final six races of the season with a lead of nearly 50 points is a great position to be in.

“There’s no doubt Rockingham will be tough, every weekend in Porsche Carrera Cup GB is, but we’ll prepare as well as we can in testing on Friday and then aim to do our very best in qualifying and the races as always. The season is reaching a crucial stage now, our lead is strong but it can all change very quickly so the most important thing is to maintain our focus and keep pushing.”

Driving, as ever, with the backing of prestigious sponsors Oman Air, Oman Ministry of Sports Affairs, Oman Ministry of Tourism, Nawras, National Bank of Oman and Muscat Eye Laser Centre, Ahmad heads to Rockingham with his confidence justly high.

“If we can leave Rockingham with our points lead protected I’ll be delighted”, he added, “We won’t be taking things easy though, I intend to fight for two more podiums and if we are in a position to challenge for more wins then that’s what we’ll do. I’m confident we’ll be strong this weekend.”

Pre-event testing will take place this Friday, 21st September, with qualifying for rounds 15 and 16 of the season following on Saturday, 22nd September, at 13.55. Both races will be contested on Sunday, 23rd September, with the opener getting underway at 10.40 and the second outing starting at 15.50.

Round 16 will also be screened live in the UK on Freeview, digital satellite and cable channel ITV4 and in High Definition on ITV4 HD. Online streaming can be accessed at www.itv.com/btcc
