Scuderia VittoriaLondon based Scuderia Vittoria roll in to Northamptonshire’s 1.94 mile, Rockingham Motor Speedway this weekend (22/23 September), as rounds 11 & 12 of the AirAsia Renault Clio Cup get underway in support of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship weekend at Europe’s fastest racing circuit.
One Call Insurance backed Scuderia Vittoria, a leading team in Britain’s premier one-make saloon car championship since it came to fruition at the start of 2011, will be aiming to lead the charge at the Northamptonshire venue as they look to conclude their 2012 campaign in impressive fashion.

Stefan Hodgetts has been the name on everybody’s lips since his re-introduction to the series at Oulton Park back in June. After scooping two dominant victories followed by a further two podiums at Snetterton 300, the KX Akademy backed driver will be eager to dominate the proceedings this weekend.

“I’m really looking forward to getting back in the car at Rockingham,” explained Hodgetts. “It’s a circuit that remains quite close to my heart as I work there in the week as an instructor, it has a great layout.”

“Scuderia Vittoria have provided me with a very good package so I really want to go out there and bag two more victories. I think that our consistency over the last two rounds has certainly showed that we will be a force to be reckoned with this weekend.”

“I would also like to thank One Call Insurance and KX Akademy for the opportunity that they have given me, without them I wouldn’t be out on track this weekend.”

2008 Scottish Mini Challenge Champion Vic Covey, has enjoyed a strong maiden campaign in the Clio Cup to date, entering the weekend situated in tenth position in the championship standings as the season draws to a close.

Having established himself well inside the top ten on a regular basis, Covey will be looking to beat his personal best finish of eighth position, whilst hunting down his front-running championship counterparts.

“I can’t wait to arrive at Rockingham this weekend,” said Covey. “I’m really looking forward to building on the top eight finishes that we have produced so far this season.”

“I haven’t driven at Rockingham previously but I’m ready to take on the challenge. Danny Buxton and Tim Mullen will do the track walk with me on Friday so I’ll be hoping to pick up some good tips, the atmosphere should also be brilliant with two races on Sunday.”

Finlay Crocker visits Rockingham Motor Speedway for the second time this weekend, having previously competed there in a Clio Cup car back in 2007.

Crocker, who took Masters Cup glory in round 10 at Snetterton 300, will be aiming for a solid performance as he looks to close the 30-point gap that Team Pyro’s Simon Belcher currently holds at the top of the Masters Cup standings.

“My aim without a doubt is to challenge for another Masters Cup win this weekend,” said Crocker. “I think that this is the longest period that I have been out of the car so far this season, I’m eager to get back to racing and pick up where I left off in round ten at Snetterton 300 last time out.”

Despite a non-finish in round 10 at Snetterton 300, Ronnie Klos drew the plaudits in what was his strongest showing in the Clio Cup to date at the Norfolk venue that he had never previously raced on.

Working his way up from 23rd to 17th during the opening stages of the race, Klos was collected by TCR’s Nicolas Hamilton on lap five whilst challenging Ant Whorton-Eales for position.

Ahead of the weekend, Klos remains confident of taking more positive steps forward in Northamptonshire with just three meetings remaining.

“Rockingham is a new circuit to me but I have had a very successful track day there with Danny prior to the weekend,” explained Klos.

“With the experience that I gained from the track day, I will really be pushing to earn my highest finish in the Clio Cup this weekend, the setting also couldn’t be better for me as I have a property just 15 minutes away.”

The AirAsia Renault Clio Cup will get underway with qualifying on Saturday, 22nd September, at 16:00. Rounds 11 & 12 will get underway on Sunday, 23rd September at 10:40 and 15:50 respectively.
