Ronnie KlosLeading team Scuderia Vittoria remain in contention for a positive points haul ahead rounds 13 & 14 of the AirAsia Renault Clio Cup at Silverstone, despite KX Akademy and One Call Insurance backed Stefan Hodgetts, posting an eighth fastest lap time of 1 minute 05.572 seconds, during qualifying for Britain’s premier one-make saloon car championship.

With less than a second separating the first 20 cars on the grid, the former Clio Cup Vice Champion is eager to use his race-craft to an advantage as he hunts down his fifth podium finish of the season.

“We had a difficult session today, we’re two tenths off pole and we’re eighth,” explained Hodgetts. “It’s the most competitive one-make championship in the country and it was always going to be close on the National Circuit layout though.”

“I’m looking forward to getting back in the car tomorrow, I think that if we get a good start then we can certainly be in the running for some podium finishes this weekend.”

2008 Scottish Mini Champion Vic Covey will line up in 11th position for round 13 as he continues in his quest to stabilise tenth position in the championship standings ahead of Juta Racing’s Ignas Gelzinis.

Having proved his worth during a maiden campaign in the Clio Cup, Covey has established himself as a top-ten regular in the championship and will be keen to extend his four-point lead over Gelzinis, who starts in ninth position.

“I’m happy to have qualified on the edge of the top ten,” said Covey. “I’m not a huge fan of the National Circuit, Gelzinis starts in P9 however, so I’m determined to hold on to my tenth position in the championship standings when we go racing.”

Ronnie Klos and Finley Crocker endured a testing session due to the ultra-competitive nature of racing on the National Circuit layout. The pairing still find themselves in contention for Masters Cup honours ahead of rounds 13 & 14 at the Northamptonshire venue however.

“To see 20 cars on the grid within a second of each other shows just how tight it is on times around here,” said Klos.

“After showing strong pace at Rockingham, I’m a little disappointed to have qualified in P19, but there is still everything to play for as all the Masters Cup competitors qualified so close together.”

Crocker added, “Silverstone National Circuit is a track that I favor but it just goes to show how competitive it has been in qualifying today.”

“Starting from P20 isn’t ideal, so I have a lot of work to do tomorrow to stay in contention with Simon Belcher who qualified P17, I think that we’re more than capable of rising to the challenge though.

Rounds 13 & 14 of the AirAsia Renault Clio Cup will get underway tomorrow (Sunday, 7th October), at 09:45 and 16:25 respectively.
