Hillspeed F4 LiveryMultiple championship-winning motor racing team Hillspeed is delighted to confirm it will field a two-car entry in the all-new BRDC Formula 4 Championship next year, to run alongside its existing successful operations in Protyre Formula Renault BARC and the Ginetta Junior Championship.

As one of the most decorated teams in the UK in recent years, including title glory in Protyre Formula Renault BARC in 2010 and back-to-back Ginetta Junior crowns in 2010 and 2011, the Hathersage squad is very happy to be involved with the revamped F4 category from the outset.

Along with the aforementioned success, Hillspeed also won the Formula Renault BARC team titles in 2008 and 2009 and the Winter Series driver titles in 2009 and 2011. In Ginetta Junior, the team made history in its first season in 2010 by taking Tom Ingram to the main series title before going on to guide Seb Morris to victory in the Winter Series at the tender age of 14-years-old.

Furthermore, the Richard Ollerenshaw-led squad has also claimed championship success in Formula Renault UK, with the Winter Series title in 2007, and was a dominant force in the former ARP F3 Championship with back-to-back crowns in 2000 and 2001. In short, Hillspeed has won races and titles in every category it has contested.

“We’re absolutely delighted to be involved with the new BRDC Formula 4 Championship”, said team principal Ollerenshaw, “It provides an excellent opportunity for young drivers to make the transition from karting into single-seaters, and at sensible budgets too. With the might of MSV and the BRDC behind it the championship will, I’m sure, be a major success.

“It’s clearly been well thought out, is very well structured and we’re obviously very happy to be involved from the beginning. Formula 4 will add another rung to Hillspeed’s ladder of progression and we’re determined to maintain our record of winning in every series we’ve taken part in.”

Run by MotorSport Vision, the 2013 BRDC Formula 4 Championship will be contested over 24 rounds across eight race meetings, taking in the UK’s premier venues including Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit, Donington Park and Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit.

Provisionally, the inaugural season will begin at the end of April with the championship finale scheduled for mid-October and the plan is for F4 to run at some of the country’s biggest motorsport events – including a support slot alongside the visiting DTM ‘German Touring Car’ series and selected appearances on the British Formula 3/British GT package.

The MSV F4-013 cars, constructed by Van Diemen founder Ralph Firman, will be powered by 2.0-litre Ford Duratec engines, supplied by Cosworth, which produce 175bhp. Additionally, the cars will boast a six-speed transmission with steering wheel mounted paddle-shift gear change.

Safety-wise, the Formula 4 chassis meets the latest FIA standards for spaceframe cars with features including increased rollover protection, cockpit head surround, wheel tethers and carbon fibre front and rear impact structures. The cars will run on Yokohama slick tyres.
