Seb Morris - HillspeedHillspeed will expand to running three cars in the brand new BRDC Formula 4 Championship it is confirmed today, Thursday, 28th March, following the surprise announcement of a deal with multiple car racing champion Seb Morris.

Reuniting with the Hathersage team which steered him to the 2010 Ginetta Junior Winter Series and 2011 Ginetta Junior Championship titles, the 17-year-old Welsh racer will undoubtedly be a genuine threat for the inaugural BRDC F4 crown. He joins Jersey-based Struan Moore, his former team-mate at Hillspeed in Ginetta Junior, and Malaysia’s Rahul Raj Mayer.

Widely regarded as one of the UK’s premier talents, Morris was all set to compete in the Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup (NEC) this season but a change in plans has led to his return to British shores for a tilt at his fourth car racing success in as many years – having also won the Protyre Formula Renault Winter Series in 2012.

“This is fantastic news for Hillspeed”, said team principal Richard Ollerenshaw, “We didn’t set-out to become a three-car team in our first season in BRDC Formula 4 but when the opportunity to renew our working relationship with Seb presented itself, it was too good a chance to miss.

“We obviously enjoyed a lot of success together in Ginetta Junior and having seen how competitive Seb was in Protyre Formula Renault last year, I’m very confident he will be a major title contender in F4 and a very realistic prospect for podiums and wins every weekend.”

Ollerenshaw added: “Seb and Struan obviously know each other from Ginetta Junior, so we’re delighted they’ll be working together as team-mates again this year. Together with Rahul, who is a very exciting prospect himself, I feel we have a very well balanced and competitive young team.”

Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit in Northamptonshire will host the opening three rounds of the BRDC Formula 4 Championship season on 27th/28th April. Before then, Hillspeed and the other F4 teams will convene at Snetterton, in Norfolk, for the official pre-season test on Tuesday, 23rd April.

Commenting on the season ahead, Morris said: “I really am looking forward to competing in BRDC Formula 4 this year and delivering as many wins as I can for the guys at Hillspeed. With TV coverage on ITV4 and Motors TV and backing from the BRDC, Jonathan Palmer [Chief Executive of MotorSport Vision] has created a very exciting championship package.”
