On the last couple of weekends, Italian youngster Vittoria “Vicky” Piria made her Formula Renault debut between Misano and Varano. Vicky, who only raced open wheel cars once, impressed the personnel of Tomcat Racing both in the Italian F.Renault round held at Misano and in the Formula 2.0 Light Series race at Varano last Sunday. Despite the lack of experience she managed to stay in the leading pack with ease, capping the experience with a 9th place taken with a gearbox problem at Parma’s racetrack.

“At Varano, I started from the 6th row, and soon climbed up to the 5th spot. Unfortunately, the 2nd gear broke and I was passed by several cars. In general, I’m really satisfied with how things went on. The team is great, they’re really patient and I can learn a lot. It feels like I’m in a family.”

“We decided to enter these races in order to make experience for the next season. Everything went on great since Misano, as I quickly improved my laptimes and managed to fight amidst a much more experienced pack. I lost time later though, as I’m not used to the fight situations.”

Carlo Dell’Orto, Team Manager, Tomcat Racing
“Vicky had a more than positive debut, showing to have the right pace to stay in the middle of the pack since the very beginning. She has to become more experienced, of course, to express her potential by profiting from traffic situations. We’re really satisfied because her laptimes keep falling, and she’s really focused.”
