The fourth round of the Swiss Formula Renault Championship ended up with a 15th and an 11th place at Le Mans for Matteo Davenia. The Italian, driving for Cram Competition, confirmed with a consistent pace the progress made in the last two rounds, despite the bad luck suffered in France. Matteo and Cram will be back on-track at Magny-Cours for testing, before entrering the 5th round of 2009 on August 8 and 9.

“Practice went on fairly good. We elected to keep new tires for the following session, but then it started to rain, vanishing the advantage. In qualifying I made a mistake and spun when the track was drying, and that’s a pity, because I was running in 6th on wet and I found myself forced to start at the back of the two races’ packs.

“Unfortunately, Race 1 virtually ended when I spun to avoid a contact between two other cars, compromising my run. On Race 2 I recovered well though, proving to have a good pace, though I was passed by a couple of cars thanks to big cuts. We could have done better, but we’ll be back as we now know that we can fight for the top-6.”

“As an additional note, I also want to say that I’m extremely sorry to have heard of the incident that claimed the life of Henry Surtees at Brands Hatch. I’m really close to his family and friends…”
